About Branching Out
Krisanna Mazur founded Branching Out after several years of working in both consulting and municipal arboriculture. She founded the company because she wanted to find ways to decolonize the fields of arboriculture and landscaping.
In her pre-teen years, Krisanna got her start working with plants by mowing her neighbour’s lawn and weeding his garden. A few years later, a part-time job in high school at a nursery led to her pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture with a major in Urban Ecosystems from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. She worked for many years in landscape design, installation and maintenance, which grounds her knowledge in hands-on experience.
Krisanna was raised on the ancestral territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking Peoples (Surrey, BC) to parents of Ukrainian, German, Danish and Indigenous (to Treaty 1 Territory) descent. Much of her childhood was spent playing outside or camping, which greatly informed her love of nature. Currently she lives in Metrotown with her partner, their dog and two cats. She is passionate about issues affecting 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, disability justice, and Indigenous sovereignty across the globe.
